Large Enterprises with global workforces are changing the way they communicate for the better, Video is the way forward & our NDEF speaker Shoham Cohen gives us his view on the industry ahead of his talk themed “Harnessing The Power Of Video To Drive Digital Transformation In The Workplace”

Over to you Shoham….

DEF To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about your role at Kaltura and your main responsibilities?

Shoham I’m currently heading the Nordics region at Kaltura, where my main responsibilities involve, among other things, helping both enterprises and educational institutions drive monetisation through digital transformation and video.

DEF What does a typical day at the office look like for you?

Shoham Like many employees at Kaltura, I spend a fair amount of time on a plane to meet my clients across the region face-to-face. Kaltura is a company that allows a lot of flexibility in the workplace, and so my permanent base is in Cyprus, where I live with my family; but through technology and video, I can reach out to my team across Europe and participate or hold meetings when required.

DEF What do you enjoy the most about the work that you do at Kaltura and why?

Shoham Kaltura has built, over the last 13 years, a very innovative, out of the box and creative environment, where ideas are always encouraged and explored. The tech ecosystem is constantly changing, and we need to always stay ahead of new trends and technologies, and make the required tech adjustments to better cater to video users. This makes my work even more exciting as there’s always something new coming up!

DEF Video is now seen as a core medium through which enterprise brands can engage with both employees, clients, and prospect clients. Can you highlight some recent success stories from brands using Kaltura’s video platform?

Shoham Kaltura’s platform is used by hundreds of companies in over 90 countries, reaching tens of millions of people, across a variety of industries, including Financial Services. Government, Insurance, Retail, Healthcare and more. Brands are using Kaltura across departments and for a multitude of use cases – knowledge sharing and collaboration, internal & external communications, events webcasting, marketing & sales enablement, just to mention a few.

Some common use cases include Corporate Communications teams needing to scale their video management and publishing capabilities required by an expanding video library; or Digital Marketingrequiring an efficient solution to broadcast live events, or to publish marketing videos externally across various sites, quickly. Often, IT and Marketing teams needing a video solution that offers scalability, better management and control over video content, and while in many cases YouTube continues to be used for some video marketing activities, many brands want to supplement this with a robust video management and control system and centralised video repository that adheres the company’s policies of not hosting internal content on public websites.

DEF Can you tell us about some of the recent features you’ve added or are adding to your products to help brands get the most out of their digital transformation strategies?

Shoham We are always on the cusp of innovation at Kaltura and have launched a number of really new products and features that are really driving digital transformation for our clients. In May last year, we acquired a company called RAPT, an interactive storyboard video platform that helps to personalise viewers’ experience and can be used for personalised marketing, customer education, recruitment, learning video experiences. Another great product is Pitch, a tool that helps brands move away from traditional text emails and allows you to create video emails and then track exactly when your target watches them, thus making communication more personal, effective, and trackable.

DEF With regard to digital transformation, which new tactics do you think brands should be looking to implement in 2019?

Shoham Digital transformation is a very complex topic, and it impacts all departments and structures within the organisation. Having said that, these would be the top 3 areas that I think brands should be exploring:

  • Interactivity – there is a staggering 8 billion videos views per day, but how much of that content are people actually actively consuming and engaging with? Interactive videos are a great tool for engaging with your audience, both internally and externally and reducing passive consumption of video content
  • Two-ways video creation and ownership – user-generated content, especially when it comes to video, has been a growing trend for the last few years. Brands should look into tools (and there are many out there) for videos creation and video sharing, to encourage a two-way interaction with their audience via video content
  • Inclusiveness & Diversity  – Lastly, but most importantly, brands should look into AI and other technologies to allow more visually impaired, or in other ways, disabled people to consume videos and interact with them.

DEF You’ll be speaking at our next Nordics Digital Enterprise Festival in Copenhagen on 7th February. Without giving too much away, can you tell us a bit more about what you will cover?

Shoham In the context of digital transformation, which is the main theme of the conference, we will run a roundtable to bring go over and discuss the use of video for both internal and external communications. The session will go through several practical use cases and scenarios, but will also involve an in-depth consultation where you will be given the chance to discuss with your peers and address your company’s specific challenges, successes and share best practices.

DEF Finally, if you were stranded on a desert island, which three items would you want to have with you and why?

Shoham Laptop – so I could order some takeaways and reach out to my mum! Video tools to keep track of my wife and kids and a wi-fi hotspot so I could execute 1 and 2

Thanks for your insights Shoham. Head over to www.kaltura.com to learn more about their work.
