DEF: Can you tell us a bit about Balfour Beatty?

 

Victor: Balfour Beatty is a leading international infrastructure group providing innovative and efficient infrastructure that underpins our daily lives.

DEF: As Head of Digital what does that mean for you on a day-to basis?

 

Victor: I work within the Business Transformation Team and support the UK construction services business units with all things BIM/Digital related

DEF: What brought you here? Was it your initial career path of choice?

 

Victor: I started my working life as a wood machinist for a large furniture company, from there I started designing furniture in 2d and 3d and this then developed into working in the construction industry in various BIM related role. I have just completed a MSc in BIMM at Middlesex University and have become Head of Digital at Balfour Beatty

DEF: What is the best and worst part of the day for you?

 

Victor: My best day would be helping people develop BIM skill and gain a better understanding of what benefits BIM can bring (eg. Reducing risk, improving quality and improving H&S) My worst day would be spent fill out my expenses claims.

DEF: What makes you passionate about the world of digital and technology?

 

Victor: I enjoying working with the technologies because they are allows developing and never standstill. Also I like using the technology to develop new or improve exist workflow and working with people to realise the benefit their day to day work.

DEF: What song do you listening to the most?

 

Victor: Free bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd

DEF: What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

 

Victor: I enjoy walking my dogs and being with my family.

DEF: Digital has already taken us on a significant journey both in business and in our personal lives. What big things do you think we should be looking out for in 2018?

 

Victor: The use of data to drive business decision making.

DEF: And how about looking ahead to 10 years’ time?

 

Victor: Offsite manufacture, robotics or automation of construction process, AI and machine learning to drive and improve decision making.

DEF: You are going to be speaking at our next Digital Enterprise event in London. There you will talk about: Big Data. Without giving to much away can, you tell us a bit more about that?

 

Victor: Like most industries the Construction Industry has massive amount of data, but unlike industry like the insurance industry we fail to make the most out of data when making decision and seem to rely on subjective decision making instead. How can the Construction Industry make better use if it’s available data resources?

DEF: How is big data analysis helpful in increasing business revenue?

 

Victor: By reducing risk, improving quality and drive defect free delivery of projects.

DEF – Why is big data important and how can it support organizations?

 

Victor: Data is what we use to make business decisions. Having access to the correct and validated data, improves those decisions and improves our business outcomes.
